“But I wanted to bring that [Northern Africa] influence in a very nuanced way,” explains Edun Creative Director Danielle Sherman in the Spring 2014 issue of i-D. “Rather than using an animal print or something that may feel too obvious, for me it was like ‘how can I take this rich culture and translate it in a way that feels exciting and new and wearable?’” Wearability is a major objective for Sherman, who is two seasons into her design tenure for the label founded in 2005 by Bono and his wife Ali Hewson. That very wearability of the Edun Spring 2014 collection is shown in compelling detail by Sabrina Ioffreda, who is photographed by Amy Troost and styled by Alastair McKimm for this story. Producing the collections in an ethical manner is also massively important to Sherman, who considers the approach anything but an impediment. “No, I feel it’s kind of the new way… People and companies are more thoughtful now about who they work with, who they collaborate with, who they have relationships with — so joining a company where that is important I find exciting.”
