As a precocious student with a predilection for the darker side of fantasy, the need to balance the twin demands of schoolwork and a fairytale of a modeling career was always going to rank high for Esmeralda Seay-Reynolds. “It is such a privilege to have the opportunity to be educated, since so many women cannot. With this in mind, I arranged a system of tutoring by my teachers from my school based around my modeling schedule.” Clearly the system Esmeralda has devised is working — she maintains a straight-A average and is currently starring in the Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 campaign. As serious as all this sounds, Esmeralda takes it in stride with her keen sense of humor sprinkled with a self-described weirdness. Fact is, Esmeralda has other pressing concerns, not least of which include what she will be wearing to prom (“think sparkly, think ethereal and think magical!”). Esmeralda relates all this and more in an i-D interview with Felicity Kinsella that is running today on i-D.co along with a portrait by Daniel Jackson.
