There is a delicious tension that accompanies the July / August 2014 cover of Numéro Tokyo featuring Julia Frauche photographed by Miles Aldridge. The cult of postwar American domesticity courses through much of Aldridge’s body of work and is evidenced strongly in the period beauty and styling of this cover. A placid Julia is pictured wearing a blue jacket from the Giorgio Armani Spring 2014 collection. How exactly this all adds up to the headline announcing “Adventure” is an open question, but the tension it creates is nearly as irresistible. Open the issue and the adventure very clearly plays out in a dramatic courtroom sequence that culminates in a stylishly accessorized post-verdict walk before assembled press. Innocent or guilty, no sensible jury could possibly rule against Julia Frauche.
