Every city on the planet experiences autumn, but none quite like New York does. Gotham looms especially large in the September 2014 issue of W in an editorial featuring Ola Rudnicka and Esmeralda Seay-Reynolds photographed by Boo George. Titled “New York Dolls,” this Giovanna Battaglia-styled editorial takes a 1969 Life cover story celebrating the “New York Look” as its point of departure in its study of the ready-to-wear collections for fall. The spirit that Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton transmitted on runway earlier this resonates strongly with what W editors clearly believe is a New York moment. Throw in a pair of dolls in Ola and Esy and this New York story becomes a truly compelling tale, one which stretches back to the late 1960s and as far forward as this season and beyond.
