PARIS — “I think Anthony Vaccarello’s clothes are made for strong women,” explained Caroline de Maigret, who was seated front row for the designer’s Fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection. “He is one of the only designers that I actually accept to wear a dress because I still feel empowered with his dresses.” That power was abundantly evident early Tuesday evening at Palais de Tokyo on what was the first day of fashion week in the French capital. The makeup by Tom Pecheux in particular emphasized this strength and confidence. “I wanted a makeup that was sophisticated, but everything except that French bourgeois.” There was nothing conventional about the makeup, the collection, or cast of powerful models. A dozen models at Next including Thairine García, Esther Heesch, Hedvig Palm, Binx, Ola Rudnicka, Marta Dyks, Zuzanna Bijoch, Sabrina Ioffreda, Meghan Collison, Bruna Rosa, and Nadine Strittmatter walked the poured-concreted runway, thereby beginning what surely will be a glorious nine days in Paris.
