The heavy medical overtones of this editorial notwithstanding, the story is not fact an imagining stardom as an affect of pathology. Far from it! This story appearing in the current issue of Jalouse is 100% Lily McMenamy, which is what it says on the tin, “Born to Be a Star.” Photographed by Alexei Hay, the Jennifer Eymére-styled story takes a quasi-camp perspective on the coming fall collections by making use of color gels on the lighting and some tongue firmly planted in cheek staging. Enter Dr. David Colbert of New York Dermatology Group, dermatologist to the stars, the silent but authoritative presence throughout who tends to his well-heeled client. Lily, a star since birth (merci, maman), lives up to her billing as ever mingling elegance with eccentricity. Page after page there is much learn, viz., stardom is not a disease, surgery is always elective, and Lily McMenamy was born to be a star.
