There are September issues and then there are Italian Vogue September issues. The mother of all Vogue Italia cover stories, which celebrates its 50th anniversary, surfaced today and it is nothing short of monumental, a where-were-you-when moment, if you will. Assembled before the masterful lens of Steven Meisel for the nearly endless cover are a half century models including amongst others Meghan Collison, Isabeli Fontana, Jamie Bochert (Next London), and Caroline Trentini (Next London). The cover story proper, which was styled under the aegis of fashion editor Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele, opens with a quotation from Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Name Desire that superbly captures the spirit of the magazine’s five decades in print, “Physical beauty is a passing – a transitory possession – but beauty of the mind, richness of the spirit, tenderness of the heart – I have all these things – aren’t taken away but grow! Increase with the years!” Buon 50 ° anniversario!
