Symmetry gets a lot of play in the world. X for X, Y for Y, Bach for Bach…there is no end to the balancing once symmetry takes root. Order can eventually lead to tedium, which is precisely what is avoided in the pages of the November 2014 issue of Vogue Japan featuring Suvi Koponen photographed by Mario Testino. Aptly titled “Asymmetry Obsession,” the delightfully colorful story celebrates the absence of symmetry in collections for Fall 2014 from Peter Pilotto to Prada. The resulting portraits are anything but staid, on the contrary, the preoccupation with imbalance adds the requisite tension to make the story as memorable as its subject, Suvi Koponen.
