Whether chiseled in rock or hashtagged on social media, ancients and millennials pretty much agree on the importance of knowing thyself. Those who do not know themselves are condemned to etc and so on. How else to explain the popularity of online quizzes to answer life’s great existential questions like “how Tobias Fünke are you” or which city you are? One woman who not only knows herself, but also which city she is (Paris) certainly has to be Caroline de Maigret. The December 2014 issue of Marie Claire Italia trains its lens on Caroline in a lengthy feature by photographer François Rotger and stylist Rafaella Campeggi. Photographed in Paris, the story is a 20-page meditation on the unbreakable connection between City of Light and Caroline, who effectively wrote the book on the topic (How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are). Know thyself or at the very least be well versed in how Caroline does.
