In an age when the printed page is most often read on a tablet or smartphone, reaching the milestone of a half decade in print for any publication is no mean feat. Swedish biannual Scandinavia SSAW has done just that and to celebrate has released five covers one of which includes Kim Peers (pictured) and and another Maja Salamon. Photographed by Boe Marion and styled by Oscar Lange, the cover story borrows its title from the song “Shoreline” by Swedish alt rockers Broder Daniel. “I’ve been standing on the shoreline for all my life and I’ve been waiting,” begins the song, which laments a youth smothered under the dead weight of a small town. There is plenty of small town in this story, which was produced under the artistic direction of Jakob Hyśen Hedberg, but beauty has supplanted any sinister themes explored by Broder Daniel. Warm light fills the story, which lovingly illuminates the iconic Belgian page after page. There is something intriguing about the editorial, lurking deep in the high grasses of July to the trill of insect accompaniment, which is not entirely down to place alone. Look closer and that something is Kim Peers, who is perfectly suited to celebrate any anniversary from five years to a lifetime.
