NEW YORK — Eight days of ready-to-wear in Gotham are not without their reward, this much was true early Thursday evening as Marc Jacobs commanded the showpiece thought brought the week to such an extraordinary conclusion. As the minutes ticked closer and closer to 6 PM the celebrated American designer whose latter-day commitment to punctuality would make even the cesium doubt its own standards could be heard backstage marshaling his troops for the runway assault that would begin on time no matter what. And the show went on…and how! On the evening Anna Cleveland, Esmeralda Seay-Reynolds, Grace Simmons, Lili Sumner, Laura Julie, and Grace Hartzel all featured on the runway set designed by Stefan Beckman that is said to be modeled after a painting of Diane Vreeland by Jeremiah Goodman. The bloodred seating gallery was made all the more ominous by the soundtrack adapted from Clint Mansell’s score for Requiem for a Dream (2000) as Marc Jacobs’s legion of black swans strode the runway with intensity.  This was an evening to savor and as ever will serve as waypoint for the long season ahead. Next stop, London…
