PARIS — Applause can be a difficult gesture to achieve for any designer bounding out onto the runway following his or her show especially when to a person, audience members are clutching smart devices eager to record the moment, thereby removing the possibility of striking together their hands in a clapping motion. The Fashion Law’s Julie Zerbo made this shrewd insight during Fashion Week in New York, but the opposite was very much the case Thursday night at École des Beaux-Arts when celebrated designer Alber Elbaz took his bow following the women’s Lanvin Fall / Winter 2015 runway show. The applause was resounding, it was sustained, and it was fully earned. On the night a half dozen models at Next including Laura Julie, Liza Ostanina, Grace Hartzel, Hedvig Palm, Yana van Ginneken, and Olga Sherer all featured on the runway. The collection is said to have used the designer’s place of birth in Morocco as a point of departure, which given its rich and often overlapping histories made for a fruitful journey. What emerged was a collection that will surely have the Lanvin woman and her many admirers applauding just as they so enthusiastically did Thursday night.
