Numéro Homme launched in 2007 back in the heady days of the oughts and has since expanded into several international editions. The latest branch of the tree is Numéro Homme Berlin, which has published its inaugural Summer 2015 issue with a smashing story featuring none other than Lucky Blue Smith. The calculus behind creating a successful first issue in Germany is plain, feature Karl Lagerfeld on the cover and include a 14-page single-guy story with the Übermensch of male model sensations. Thematically, the story shows another side of the 17-year-old who boasts over a million Instagram followers by borrowing from “Dancing with Myself” era Billy Idol. Spiky, sneery, rebellious, this story by photographer Alexei Hay and stylist Bill Mullen reimagines the teen idol in universal terms that will appeal widely to everyone from those who can sing the words to “White Wedding” to those who simply want to be the boy’s lawfully wedded. It is an open question which frontier Numéro Homme will next choose, but suffice it to say Lucky Blue has all but sealed the publication’s status in Germany.
