The big news coming out of China this week of course has been the devaluation of its currency, the yuan, but believe it or not that is not the only news to traverse the Great Firewall. The September 2015 issue of Vogue China has finally hit newsstands (somewhere over there) and the early indications are quite promising not least for the inclusion of a Daniel Jackson story featuring ever sultry Laura Julie. Titled “Dark Romance,” this Tiiana Laakkonen-styled story makes good on its promise by serving up an offering that is hauntingly beautiful. The story draws its mood from a stony field replete with a knobbly tree, which is a fitting backrdrop for Laura’s entry (pictured) in which she wears a floral lace and sequin embroidered silk crêpe gown by Oscar de la Renta. The column gown is said to have been inspired Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball of 1966, which hints at why on Laura Julie it looks so timeless. There are other looks to this story, all of which ought to keep Laura Julie’s valuation high and rising.
