The woods have been a staple of many a good story since antiquity. Without said woody outgrowths, Eve’s surreptitious harvesting of fruit or Faust’s dubious negotiations simply would not be nearly as resonant as they have been down through the centuries. Vogue Japan could well know as much judging by a 10-page story by photographer Mark Segal starring Maja Salamon in, wait for it, the woods. Titled “Into the Woods,” this Giovanna Battaglia-styled story does not so much reprise the Steven Sondheim classic of the same name as it does sing its own tune. To that end, Maja is on song wearing various looks for autumn and winter that would be at home underneath the thick forest canopies of North America and Europe. Whether she is wearing BOSS (pictured) or Balenciaga, Maja brings out the most in every look just as the woods themselves have done in tales throughout history.
