Rainswept as Milan was that Wednesday in late September, Alessandro Michele managed to put on a runway show for Gucci that was imbued with passion. Michele’s “new romanticism” did not just carry that particular day, but it seems the days, weeks, and months that have since intervened. The latest issue of W catches up with the Gucci creative director on the occasion of an exhibition in Shanghai he curated along with Katie Grand that interrogates definitions of the contemporary. Central to this feature of course is Wangy, who appears photographed by Jeff Yiu. In September Wangy walked for Gucci and not surprisingly is a natural fit in this feature styled by Patrick Mackie. Wangy is a model who embodies what Michele describes as the woman of today, “She wants to be the goddess of the streets, a goddess of tenderness. Maybe even she wants to be completely ambiguous.” Whatever this she ultimately becomes, Wangy looks every bit the part for Gucci.
