Never mind Google Translate, all readers need to mull over is the fact that they’re looking square at a Lucky Blue Smith cover story by photographer Lukasz Pukowiec in the Spring / Summer 2016 issue of Vogue Man Ukraine. The headlines when crudely translated are intelligible enough, “Golden Years” on the cover and “Rebel without a Cause” for the story. Both of these lines are direct references to David Bowie and James Dean, two cultural figures to whom the young man from the Smith clan is frequently likened. “Golden Years” of course is the 1975 single by Bowie off the Station to Station album, whereas Rebel without a Cause is the 1955 cinema classic that went a long way to sealing Dean’s legend following his tragic death at the age of 24. Back to Lucky, though. The cover shows him at his brooding best sporting dirty blonde hair and wearing a jacket by Tom Ford, a look that is likely to stop readers in their tracks. Bowie and Dean might have left the world, but it is Lucky Blue who has made this green earth heavenly.
