The Alexander Wang Spring / Summer 2016 advertising campaign started surfacing earlier this month right around the closing days of Fashion Week in Paris. On Friday, 11 March Binx (pictured) posted a shot from the series by photographer Steven Klein in which she is ascending a flight of steps in the Subway. Alice Glass posted a shot of herself in record store. AlunaGeorge and Travi$ Scott posted shots of their own on Instagram accounts. In total, 21 of the designer’s “coolest friends” comprising the self-styled WANGSQUAD feature in the campaign, which by design was first broken by the featured talent through their respective social media feeds. The talent were reportedly invited to choose their on looks and locations for the shoots in an effort to underscore the genuineness of the campaign. “The point was to show authenticity behind what they’re wearing,” said Wang speaking to Vogue. “They’re the ones really sharing this content first on their own Instagram or wherever, and we wanted it to feel like it was their story, and they felt like what they were wearing captured who they really are. I think that authenticity reads to the audience.” The campaign speaks for itself, the very embodiment of the label founded over a decade ago, and this season has the talent to prove it.
