Last summer Alice Glass released the single “Stillbirth,” her first since embarking on a solo career after an immensely successful if not fraught tenure with experimental electronic outfit Crystal Castles. The song in a lot of ways draws a line under this earlier period of her life and career that was marked by years of emotional abuse. All proceeds of digital sales of the single purportedly went to benefit organizations like RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). Since releasing that single Alice has been steadily working on her debut solo record, which she touches on amongst other themes in a rare interview with fellow punk rock singer-songwriter Allison Wolfe in the Spring / Summer 2016 issue of Dazed. “Now I feel like I’m finally learning to use and trust my voice. I wish there wasn’t such a stigmatisation of vulnerability, because that fear of embarrassment often keeps people silent,” says Alice as she reflects on the origins of “Stillbirth.” The future looks bright in any case. Currently Alice can be seen in the Spring 2016 advertising campaign for Alexander Wang by Steven Klein.
