“People always expect Givenchy to have a very strong message,” Riccardo Tisci said speaking exclusively to WWD. “The message is about my community and how to make a dream become a reality.” The medium of this message is of course the Givenchy Fall 2016 advertising campaign photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott that features amongst others Odette Pavlova. Tisci’s collection replete with Egyptian falcon print (pictured) infuses an otherwise banal setting of a denuded institutional interior of Manhattan with a dream-like quality. For Tisci, this was important to advertise the collection in a way that reflects how the clothing comes to life in a world outside of the runway. “Now you see a lot of girls mixing streetwear with Givenchy bags, Chanel bags,” Tisci said to WWD. “This campaign shows that I’m keeping my eyes fixed on what’s happening out there in reality. And that, I think, is my strength. My first thing is being real and looking at what is happening out there.” Odette walked in the Fall 2016 Givenchy runway show in Paris in March.
