The year is 1980. Jimmy Carter is campaigning for a second term in the White House. The Summer Olympics in Moscow are boycotted by 65 nations in protest over Soviet War in Afghanistan. Pac-Man is released in Japan. Away from the headlines, 1980 also witnessed Shawn Stussy for the first time apply his scrawled signature logo used on the surfboards he carved in Laguna Beach, California to T-shirts. Thus began the Stüssy empire, which today boasts over 60 stores worldwide. Extending that dominance into autumn, Stüssy today announced via Instagram its Fall 2016 advertising campaign starring Lily McMenamy. Photographed by Tyrone Lebon in Paris along the banks of the Seine, the campaign is a sunny black and white refresh on what is a classic Stüssy look. 2016 and it’s another election year, the Olympics are in full swing, and Lily McMenamy is worthy of votes, medals, and more.
