Tingtagel Castle has clung to the rocky cliffs off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, England for centuries. Although the strategic importance of the castle has never quite equalled its legend (see also King Arthur), the ruins nevertheless provide a picturesque backdrop to a fall fashion story running in the September 2016 issue of Vogue featuring Grace Hartzel. Photographed by Mikael Jansson and styled by Tabitha Simmons, the story titled “Major General” drives home just what readers can expect from military jackets for Fall 2016 and, spoiler alert, it’s not austerity. Zippers, polished buttons, sharp tailoring, then rule the coming season. Grace (pictured) is shown wearing a green suede jacket by Balmain over an airy silk-crepon blouse by Chloé. This castle on the coast is unlikely to figure in any major military campaigns ever again, but that does not rule out an impressive victory for Grace this September.
