MILAN — Whereas much of the restaurants, shops, and any doors offering the staples of life in Italy’s fashion capital remain emphatically closed on Sunday, there is one institution that is open for business. Although there is nary a mention of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s women’s ready-to-wear runway show on the official Milan Fashion Week calendar, you would be hard pressed to find a local who did not know something fantastic was taking place at the Metropol convention center along Viale Piave. And so it was, Sunday afternoon, the final day of shows in Italy that bore witness to the semiannual Dolce & Gabbana runway spectacle. This season’s controlling theme, firmly steeped in that unique strain of Italian culture that is as at home printed on a bumper sticker, coffee mug, or evening dress, Tropico Italiano provided a generous canopy under which delight. There were palm trees on on the runway, a cast of street dancers, and enough Millennial front rowers from Lucky Blue, Pyper America, Daisy Clementine, and Starlie Cheyenne, to the brothers Brandon and Dylan Lee to bring social media shine to it all. The runway program featured 11 models at Next including Grace Elizabeth, who closed the show. Joining Grace were Selena Forrest, Lineisy Montero, Lorena Maraschi, Maria Clara, Binx, Leila Goldkuhl, Julie Hoomans, Wangy Xin Yu, Giulia Manini, and Miranda Nyström. That’s all from Milan for this season…next stop, Paris.
