PARIS — After hours at a natural history museum, geological wonders suddenly become animated, a grand spectacle ensues. No, this is not a pitch for a fourth installment of the Night at the Museum movie franchise, this is the Givenchy women’s ready-to-wear Spring / Summer 2017 runway show Sunday night at the Jardin des Plantes just outside the Galerie de Minérologie et de Géologie. Despite the show not actually being a film set, the evening’s open-air show site, replete with a mirrored runway under lights otherwise had all the trappings of a major production the likes of which only Riccardo Tisci could conceive. The setting was by no means arbitrary, but in fact provided solid, institutional backing for a Spring collection which took its cues from geological processes millions of years in the making. Timelessness, in other words, or at least time on a scale far greater than the epochal blip that is humanity. Those wielding the power of course were Riccardo’s band of strong women. On the evening nine models from across the Next network Blanca Padilla, Katlin Aas, Leila Goldkuhl, Lorena Maraschi, Ava Dahlem, Lineisy Montero, Leah Rödl, Leila Zandonai, and Caroline Reagan featured on the runway. Of the lot, Blanca and Leah were exclusives, and for a story worthy of a cinematic feature.
