PARIS — “Fashion is a passion,” proclaimed in bold black type on a crisp white cotton T-shirt worn by Binx and finished with a black beret in the Sacai Spring / Summer 2017 runway show Monday morning at Palais de Tokyo. The proclamation is a riff on on a Joe Strummer quotation that says just the opposite, the very remix of which provides a clear example Chitose Abe’s collection for spring. Imagine the techniques that helped bring about sample heavy classics from the late 1980s like Beastie Boys’s Paul’s Boutique and Public Enemy’s Nation of Millions, but put to work on a women’s ready-to-wear collection for spring that uses as its points of reference iconoclastic figures as Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Pablo Picasso as inspiration. Voilà, you have Sacai Spring / Summer 2017. Also joining Binx on the runway were a further eight models from across the Next network including Lineisy Montero, Marjan Jonkman, Odette Pavlova, Jay Wright, Lorena Maraschi, Yana Van Ginneken, Selena Forrest, Lea Issarni
