With sterling plummeting months after European Union Referendum in June, one thing is clear, the dust has not yet begun to settle on this historic vote. Perhaps, then it is no wonder the British have looked inward to rosier times in its recent past. The Fall 2016 issue of i-D is not unaffected by this climate and features a very British story by photographer Theo Sion featuring Marjan Jonkman cast in the role as a young Diana, Princess of Wales. Of course Diana’s life ended in tragedy, but not before she made her indelible mark in the British and world imagination. Marjan wears her platinum hair in manner redolent of the late princess, not to mention cardigans and jumpers that positively scream autumn 1981. There are other more literal cues within the story such as a keychain bearing the likeness of Diana and her then husband, Prince Charles. So what if Tesco is running low on Marmite these days, at least i-D is standing resolute in the shadow of Brexit.
