“I have to do this and be my own person,” says Dua Lipa in V105 in a story photographed by Mario Testino. “It pushed me not to give up on my dreams because it was the only thing I had my heart set on from the very start.” Although Lipa is styled for this story to evoke Cher, she is very much her own person as this interview with William Defebaugh reveals. Lipa grew up in London where she spent her formative years developing her voice. Following a four-year interlude in her native Albania, Lipa convinced her parents to allow her to move back to London on her own to pursue her dreams of pop stardom. Now at the age of 21, Lipa is well placed to realize those dreams. Signed to Warner Bros. Records, Lipa’s eponymous debut is set for release on 2 June 2017, which by all indications is expected to be hotter than hell.
