There are cities and then there are cities. The same goes for models. Both come together an evocative manner for the Brandon Maxwell Spring / Summer 2017 advertising campaign starring Riley Montana in where else, but her childhood home in the West Side of Detroit. Maxwell photographed Riley alongside her family for both the print portion of the campaign as well as for a short film titled Ebony, which he co-directed with Jessy Price. “I realized that she’s the embodiment of the woman I design for,” says designer Maxwell speaking with Vogue.com. “The woman who, no matter what she’s been through, puts on the clothes with her head held high.” Riley indeed holds her head high. “When I sing, I sing for the ones who cannot, the ones who built me up, the ones who polished my shine,” intones Riley in voiceover narration for Ebony. “But when I dance, I dance for the chance to be seen for who I am, for the girl I was, and the woman I will become.” From Detroit to the world, Riley Montana sets her sights for the stars and beyond.
