NEW YORK — Coy Jeremy Scott is not. In a day and age when those in power strike increasingly sinister chords, Jeremy Scott is fighting back by being the best Jeremy Scott he can possibly be. To that end, the volume Friday night was cranked to fabulous, the white shag runway breathed throaty breaths, and the models were clearly permitted to have a blast. A half dozen models at Next including Jay Wright, Alanna Arrington, Blanca Padilla, Aiden Curtiss, Odette Pavlova, and Anna Cleveland featured on the runway wearing clothes that referenced the Jesus Christ common to prayer candles and rugs, in other words, the people’s Jesus. Fitting then that Marilyn Manson’s 2004 cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” saw out the runway show, which the assembled faithful could all but reach out and touch at a time when liberty and justice feel ever more elusive.
