India has color. Aaand then some. The subcontinent has been awash in pigments for centuries and to such an extent that colors themselves are fêted in the Hindu spring festival of Holi. Color not surprisingly figures prominently throughout the May 2017 issue of Vogue India, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary and is guest edited by Mario Testino. Page into the issue and there is a story photographed by the guest editor himself starring none other than Marjan Jonkman. The pictures broke today and feature Marjan right in the thick of action in the bustling markets of India.Kaleidoscopic as the settings prove, Marjan (pictured) manages to upstage it all by simply pushing a bike through the narrow alleyways and market stalls. Marjan is dressed in mostly menswear silhouettes, which casts her in an especially androgynous role that she pulls off with aplomb. In sea of color Marjan is the focal point and on so many levels. This editorial comes on the heels of a pair of stories also by Mario Testino appearing in the April 2017 issue of Vogue Nederland.
