Creation and touch are inextricably linked in the West. Michelangelo after all depicted God’s creation of Adam in a fresco painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel as the former touching the latter. To touch is to create anew, to give life where once there was lifelessness. The May 2017 issue of Vogue Italia takes up this very theme in its cover story by Mario Sorrenti featuring amongst others Hiandra Martinez, Binx, and Selena Forrest. Touch is essential for the creation, but in the digital age it has suffered, contends Italian Vogue’s Emanuele Farneti. Cue pivot to social media. The magazine has solicited reinterpretations of its latest cover from six high school in Milan, Rome, and Florenc, which will be posted to Instagram over the course of 30 days using the hashtag #creatandtouch. Not to get too bogged down in the high concept, however the Alastair McKimm-styled shoot is pure delight. The models for the story are identified by name and zodiac, just to give it all a cosmic touch. Binx and Selena are both Taurus and Hiandra is a Sagittarius, in case any readers were wondering. The sight of all three on a single page of Vogue Italia is something that ought to give anyone life regardless of epoch.
