Prince wasn’t part of “We Are the World,” that charitable anthem written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and performed by a bevy of pop stars from 1985 to raise money for Africa. The late artist considered the whole enterprise naff and would not so much as deign to lend his presence to the sing along. History has been kind in its reassessment of Prince’s act of defiance, but it was not always thus. These days “We Are the World” is something of a shorthand for any casting that strikes a global chord. Enter Mario Testino, the photographic maestro behind the 10th anniversary issue of Vogue India, who has lensed a May 2017 fashion editorial carrying the title “We Are the World” that features amongst others Hiandra Martinez. Styled by George Cortina, the story celebrates powerful summer looks for evening, which translates into exposed shoulders and statement jewelry. To that end, Hiandra (pictured) wears a swimsuit by Norma Kamali, trousers by Dries Van Noten, boots by Louis Vuitton, Lisa Eisner necklace, and belt by Saint Laurent. All things being equal, there is nothing unedifying about this story and although Prince might never have participated were it even possible, Hiandra looks positively glorious.
