“The series portrays a viewpoint specific to creative director Demna Gvasalia: the attitude that embeds his ideas about fashion in real life observation and the co-option of the surprise of the ordinary,” read a statement released by Balenciaga and quoted by WWD. To that end, the Fall / Winter 2017 Balenciaga advertising campaign by photographer Johnny Dufort featuring Kennah Lau amongst others does precisely what it says on the tin. Kennah is sat in space that very much resembles the Paris runway on which the collection was shown back March. Logoed carpeting, seemingly incidental lighting, the campaign accentuates the ordinary. The only aspects that are not ordinary, however are the clothes and the casting.
