The first and only time Danielle Lashley featured on this page was 86 days ago back in early March on what was the final day of shows in Paris. On that particular Tuesday afternoon at the Louvre, Danielle was making her debut as a Louis Vuitton exclusive. That exclusive earned her a fair bit of press back home in Britain with Vogue and others. In the intervening weeks, Danielle has kept busy shooting editorial including this feature in the Summer 2017 issue of Wonderland in a story by photographer Carlijn Jacobs and stylist Ursula Geisselmann. Borrowing its title “Your Gaze Hits the Side of My Face” from an untitled work by Barbara Kruger, the story eschews any further affinity with the celebrated American artist and instead goes straight for luxury and glamour of the early 1980s. Warm light and soft focus give the story a dated luster, but Danielle’s presence on the page alone makes this story wholly contemporary. That Danielle opens the story (pictured) wearing earrings, bracelet, and jacket by Louis Vuitton makes the editorial all the more resonant the model’s already developing career. This is a fine print outing for Danielle and surely will not be her last.
