The Gap was founded nearly a half century ago in San Francisco, California and made its name in apparel selling wardrobe staples, namely T-shirts and denim jeans. Over the years Gap has undergone various transformations, but when it has found its greatest success it has done so while maintaining fidelity to the origins of the label. This fact is not lost on Edward Enninful. The British Vogue editor-in-chief in fact has reaffirmed the very essence of the brand in a new advertising campaign he directed called “Bridging the Gap” that stars amongst others Lineisy Montero. The premise is simple, start with Gap’s white T-Shirt, and let the rest follow. The rest is not insignificant as Enninful explains speaking with i-D. “I admire every member of this cast. They are all very special and live their truths to the fullest. They make the world a more tolerant and educated place with their incredible efforts.” That Lineisy is part of such a distinguished cast is no surprise. The significance of the trail this Dominican beauty has blazed in high fashion cannot overstated. Lineisy was instrumental in starting a conversation about models of color wearing their hair naturally. That this was ever even a discussion that had to take place is another story, but Lineisy started it and she has been bridging gaps ever since. Today she happens to be doing it for the Gap.
