Everything is transitory. One day even the sun will envelope the earth when it reaches its red-giant phase in another five billion years. Short of forever, though we have print media. Enter Purple, which marks a quarter century in print with the release of 25 special covers for its Fall / Winter 2017 issue. Twenty-five covers, you read that correctly! Dial back to 1992, the year of its launch, and the media landscape, much less the world is a very different place. The Interweb was in its consumer infancy, Twin Peaks had just wrapped on ABC, and magazine founder Olivier Zahm, together with a group of artists in Paris were busy launching a new magazine. “Every image, every single text, the choice of paper, the layout, even the choice of typefaces matters. Everything matters… Purple is made to last,” says editor-in-chief. “In this period of global Internet obsession and digital amnesia, I think that means something.” It definitely means something, which makes the presence of Tamy Glauser Anna Cleveland, Grace Hartzel, and Rila Fukushima on the covers all the more special. Tamy (pictured) is photographed artfully wearing a pair of Fendi boots. This is a milestone worthy of celebration, congratulations, Purple.
