Everyone knows Diplo is busy. This observation is banal in the extreme, but the truth behind the statement says an awful lot about the insatiable curiosity of the subject himself. “I try to create the next sound,” says the man born Thomas Wesley Pentz in the latest issue of L’Uomo Vogue. “People always ask me what I’m doing because I’m the first guy on a different sound. I am always trying to bring types of genres from different parts of the world together: to have that ingenuity in a production, to be that weird one, that’s what I strive for.” Diplo’s catalogue of hits and accolades suggest he is achieving this. Anyone who has followed Diplo on social media over the years knows he is also having fun doing it. Whether it is having his own comedy series What Would Diplo Do? (2017) starring James Van Der Beek as himself or posing in looks from the men’s Spring 2018 Prada collection for Italian men’s Vogue, Diplo’s having a blast.
