Haiti is in the news. Late Thursday evening designer Marc Jacobs broke the Spring 2018 advertising campaign for his signature label on his personal Instagram. One of the models in the campaign photographed by Steven Meisel is none other than Aube Jolicoeur from Jacmel, Haiti. “I love the exuberance, spirit and energy captured in these images,” says Jacobs in captions accompanying the pictures. The campaign eschews a central focus and rather derives its strength from the entirety of the page. Amidst the rippling light and billowing fabric, there is elation, perhaps none more so than expressed by Aube. Just behind the logo, there is Aube walking past the camera to the left of the image. She is grinning, she is delighted, she is having the time of her life. Remember too her Moschino campaign also broke this week. “This is a dream come true,” exclaims Aube. The truth of this dream will deepen and turn more and more vivid in the days and weeks to come.
