Discipline ain’t what it used to be. In fact, control has long since migrated from punisher to push notification. Internalized as authority has become, formal instruction, even boot camp, is not to be underestimated. The February 2018 issue of Vogue certainly holds the rigors of training, albeit for the catwalk, in high regard in a fashion editorial by photographer Theo Wenner that includes none other than Grace Hartzel and Selena Forrest. “Boot Camp,” as the story styled by Alex Harrington is called, in fact celebrates this season in ankle boots using the editorial idiom of the runway show from front row to backstage. Grace and Selena run the gauntlet of ready-to-wear with a poise and elegance befitting of American Vogue. The story opens with the pair seated alongside an outdoor runway in a tableau made to resemble rehearsal. Selena wears a Salvatore Ferragamo boot, Grace Coach 1941. Hair clips and robes might give an impression the main event has yet to come, but make no mistake, Grace and Selena are box-office from the off.
