NEW YORK — Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is nearly 3000 miles away, but Thursday night at the Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side it felt that much closer. This trick of space-time imagination came courtesy of Tom Ford on the occasion of his signature womenswear collection for Fall / Winter 2018. Society men have lately been on the receiving end, rightly so, and the sort that do hog headlines for feats other than alleged abuse are either stoking the marketplace with consumer flamethrowers, blasting an electric car into outer space, or holding hostage 20 North American municipalities. Were Tom Ford at all interested in any such fanciful endeavors, then surely Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos might actually be tested. Thankfully for consumers of the finer things in life, however Tom Ford is committed to high fashion and luxury. This was certainly the case Wednesday night when he debuted his latest women’s collection, which channeled the opulence, if not ostentation of the 5.71 square miles that comprise the 90210 zip code, home to Tom Ford since relocating the brand from London. To that end, sequins and enough electric animal print to coax big cats off endangered species lists held the night. This was Tom Ford at his sexiest, this was Tom Ford being chauffeured down Rodeo Drive surrounded by glittering beauties Hiandra Martinez, Marjan Jonkman, Grace Hartzel, Lineisy Montero, and Binx.
