Not unlike many industries, fashion too lags behind society. Still, though there is a commitment to progress, perhaps none more demonstrable than what Edward Enninful is doing at British Vogue. On Good Friday the editor-in-chief unveiled the new cover of the May 2018 issue of British Vogue that features a cast of models including Selena Forrest that are helping change the face of fashion. “It is a moment for Vogue to do what it has always done best: to offer a bold vision of what the future can – and should – look like,” said Enninful. To that end, he flew to New York and spent two days on set with photographer and longtime collaborator Craig McDean to shoot this cover. “What really struck me, despite their varied backgrounds, was how similar they all were. Kind, engaged, socially minded and impressively sweet to one another.” This really comes out, the warmth, the strength, both illustrated using a careful palette of khakis, blacks, and creams. There is a way forward and it is being blazed by Selena, by Edward, and so many more.
