There is much that could be mourned about fashion in New York, but the latest issue of i-D instead celebrates the very best of what it calls “The New New York” in a story by photographer Amy Troost and stylist Alastair McKimm featuring Selena Forrest. Readers ought not get it twisted either, this is not a sycophantic sortie into the world of Raf Simons, toast of New York that he is. Not at all, there is plenty more to admire from Matthew Adams Dolan to Coach 1941. A particularly inspired look worn by Selena (pictured), however opens the story, namely a dress, skirt, and socks by Gypsy Sport, brainchild of founder Rio Uribe. “New York is basically one huge intersectional community filled with a bunch of open-minded creatures awkwardly coexisting.” Awkward or not, Selena makes it all look believable, every bit worth the adulation being thrown its way in the pages of i-D.
