Hollywood is sold on sequels. So too are the ateliers of Paris. As for original stories…get thee to a library. Still, there is something to be said for tried and tested, which is the angle celebrated in the July 2018 issue of Vogue in a story by photographer Jackie Nickerson and stylist Lucinda Chambers featuring Lineisy Montero. “Remixed and Remastered,” as the feature is titled, traces the origins of contemporary designs to their antecedents. In 1990 Claudia Schiffer was photographed by Arthur Elgort wearing a floral print dress by Gucci. Alessandro Michele nearly 30 years later radically remixes that iconic floral print and slaps on a New York Yankees emblem for good measure (pictured). In these strange days, the remix makes perfect sense in way that notorious sequels judged by Rotten Tomatoes never will.
