These days discerning consumers in the market for unabashed luxury are up against it. Between dad shoes and prosthetic heads, genuine, unselfconscious, unapologetic luxury seems in short supply and by contrast can look quaint, arguably even unsophisticated. Thing is, there is luxury and then there is luxury, and one can be damn sure Tom Ford knows the difference. To be sure, there is plenty of evidence to support this fact in the Tom Ford Fall / Winter 2018 advertising campaign starring Hiandra Martinez. Photographed by Adam Katz Sinding, the campaign extends the rich and opulent chords struck back in February during Ford’s women’s runway show. Hiandra featured in that lineup and 179 days later she features in the campaign, which broke today. Irony by comparison looks callow. Tom Ford has no time for that sort of thing nor any need to pander to consumers. This campaign, this brand, and above all, Hiandra Martinez, are all genuine and oh how good that feels.
