New ground is forever being broken by Anok Yai and today is no exception. Beyond the advertising, the cosmetics contract for Estée Lauder, is the hard currency of every high fashion model, the magazine cover. Biannual covers are especially valuable for the duration they spend on the newsstand, that is, if they are not purchased immediately after being stacked up for sale. Anok’s cover of the 30th issue of Purple photographed by Juergen Teller is unlikely to linger very long on the shelf, however. Having impressed with previous cover honors for i-D and Dazed, this effort for Purple is likely to have her legion of admirers crowing. Wearing Balenciaga for the cover and corresponding story, the look is unmistakably Teller, raw and unrestrained, but luxury through and through. Shot in the open air of Los Angeles, this story just might possibly save lives as the title proclaims, time will tell.

Also featured on covers for this issue are Grace Hartzel and Jane Mosely.
