PARIS — Let’s dance! Fashion Week in the French capital began in earnest Monday afternoon for the Dior Women’s Ready-To-Wear Spring / Summer 2019 runway show. Getting this party started right and quickly was none other than Selena Forrest, who opened the show in another purpose-built Dior structure requiring thousands of man-hours to erect. The house has a long-running affinity for the sculpture garden of Musée Rodin, but Monday opted for the Hippodrome de Longchamp out in the 16th arrondissement. Situated on the generous 57 hectare (approximately 141 acres) grounds of the historic racecourse, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s show had plenty of space to move. And movement was key for a collection with dance at its heart. To that end, dancers under the direction of choreographer Sharon Eyal captivated audiences on the inky black square of a runway as models embarked on their prescribed circuit. It was a mesmerizing spectacle made all the more so by falling flower petals and a swelling soundtrack by Michel Gaubert. Back to the lineup, however. Hot on Selena’s heels in the second berth was Sara Eirud followed by a further five models from across the Next global network including Kristin Lilija, Lineisy Montero, Leila Goldkuhl, Maria Miguel, and Binx Walton. Paris Fashion Week has truly arrived.
