PARIS — Late Sunday afternoon at Esplanade des Invalides inside a purpose built enclosed runway that on the day resembled a winter garden for an impressive arrangement of succulents, the Valentino Spring / Summer 2019 runway show got underway. And did it ever! Pierpaolo Piccioli’s collections seem to only get better and better with every passing season and his latest is exception. Mood boards backstage referenced distant tropical destinations, the sort that enticed artists from another century to leave behind the known world for the unknown. Piccioli embraced this unknown world with joyful abandon, free of any pretense. What ensued was a breathtaking statement about high fashion in the 21st century. On the afternoon from across the Next global network seven models including Anok Yai, Selena Forrest, Sara Eirud, Julie Hoomans, Leila Goldkuhl, Meghan Collison, and Manu Miloqui featured in the lineup.
