The Greeks settled Napoli during the second millennium BCE. Neapolis as it was called in Latin was literally the new city and has been inhabited ever since. Thousands of years of human civilization has made the ancient city situated along the Tyrrhenian Sea unlike any other in Italy, let alone the world. Napoli has long attracted strong characters, from philosophers Bruno and Vico to the world’s greatest ever footballer Diego Maradona. Add to that manifest another name, Lily McMenamy, who in July of this year ventured to the city with photographer Talia Chetrit to shoot a story for the latest issue of Document Journal. The sprawling editorial makes ample use of the capital city of the region of Campania, from its graffitied fountains to its teeming streets. Lily as ever looks at peace, no matter the tableau unfolding all around her.
