New cover alert, new cover alert! Scratch that, this is not just any cover but the January 2019 cover of Edward Enninful’s British Vogue. Christened as the Future Issue, the cover could not be more accurate than it is, what with Dua Lipa wearing a Gucci gown photographed by breakout talent Nadine Ijewere. “I wanted to harness this new mood [brought about by the new and emerging generation of talent] in a way that made sense for Vogue,” says the editor-in-chief in his opening letter to the issue. To that end, rising talent were paired with emerging photographers. In Dua’s case, she was photographed for her first ever British Vogue cover by the first ever black woman to shoot a cover for the magazine. Never mind how that is only possible now, but full marks to Edward Enninful for this much needed change. That Dua Lipa is its face for January only bodes well for all concerned.
