The world is noisy. Sacred are those spaces where quiet takes hold and forms a bulwark against the cacophony of everyday life. The Alexander McQueen Spring / Summer 2019 advertising campaign, mute as it is on the printed page, in a way advances this calm as it relates to ritual, even the ceremonial. Take its star, Binx Walton, stoic, arresting, otherworldly even, but above all, the embodiment of beauty in all its profundity, she elicits an almost silent devotion when viewed. No surprise, really, considering the painstaking artisanship of Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen that is on display before photographer Jamie Hawkesworth’s camera lens. Binx is an extension of Burton’s designs in this campaign, no differentiation exists between the materials marshaled for this collection and the model cast. Before saying a word, let this campaign speak using no sounds whatsoever.
